SOMETHING FOR ALL THE FAMILY
We all love going on holiday but sometimes in all the excitement we forget there may be a lengthy journey to get there. Let’s face it if you’ve got little one’s even a ten minute journey can hear the call of ‘Are we nearly there yet?’
So be prepared…we’ve got a number of little game you can play on your way & some carry on through your holiday too!
I Spy
The old favourite – one person takes something they see & gives the first letter (or colour for little ones) as a clue. Everyone else takes a chance to guess what it is & the person setting it can only say yes or no. When it’s been guessed the person who guessed correctly takes the turn of spying!
Who am I?
Similar to I Spy a member of the group starts (if there are arguments as to who starts, go with youngest first!) & thinks of a famous (or simply a person everyone knows) & keeps it secret for everyone else to take it in turns to ask questions & guess. The person with the secret can only answer yes or no. so the questions have to be such. For example ‘Are you on TV?’ ‘Are you Male?’
Let’s see how long it takes for someone to ask ‘Are they male or female? Ha ha!
Rock, Paper, Scissors
Another traditional game with no requirement for additional items to play. – perfect!
Using your hand as the imaginary item the scissors will be the index & secondary finger acting as scissors. Paper – flat hand palm down, Stone – curl the hand into a fist.
Play with 2 people & the winner takes on the next person & so on!
Count 3, 2, 1 then simultaneously show the scissor, stone or paper action whilst stating what it is at the same time.
Rules – Paper covers rock & wins, Rock Blunts scissors & wins, Scissors cut paper & wins.
If you both draw the same you go again. Best out of 3 or 5 or 10 your choice!
I’m Going Shopping
This is a real test of the memory!
The youngest starts by stating they’re going shopping & in their basket they’re placing ‘X’ can be anything they want as this imaginary shop sells EVERYTHING, (oh if only!).
The next person continues with the same phrase ‘Im going shopping & going to buy…’ they add in what the previous shopper bought & then add their own, the next person states the same, adds all the previous shopping & then their own. It continues on until someone slips up & forgets an item – they are OUT. Last one standing remembering all the items is the winner! Who will be crowned the memory genius?
The Alphabet Game
This can be a real test on some letters of the alphabet. But one person choose a category & everyone then has to go through the alphabet & name something in that category with that letter. For example Animals A for Aardvark, B for Bear etc. If they can’t name anything then others have a go – there’s no real winner here just a test of knowledge. You can play with any category – boys names, girls names, fruit, items in the fridge…
The Mini game
Using your observation skills!
Keeping it very simple anyone who sees a mini car 1st whilst travelling gets a point, if you see a Yellow mini – double points!
The Fame Name Game
Testing the wit of fame! The first player says a name of a famous person i.e Postman Pat, leaving the next player to think of a name that starts with the last letter of the name previous – Penelope Cruz.
No repeats allowed & you only have a few seconds to state.
If they take too long, repeat a name or can’t think then they’re OUT – Brutal!
So there you have it just a few games to keep the little (& big) ones entertained during the journey – hopefully it doesn’t mean they’ll be any squabbles
Happy & safe travels & if you haven’t booked that break then make sure you do sooner rather than later.
We hope to see you soon!
