Not sure where to start? Take a look at our guide to some of the best walks in Sherwood Forest…

Edwinstowe, Sherwood Forest & Major Oak circular This walk explores some of the woodland including the ancient Major Oak using a number of easy to follow tracks and paths. It is a relatively easy walk of around 6 miles.

Edwinstowe to Thynghowe Walk This 7.5-mile walk stretches from Edwinstowe to its boundaries with Kings Clipstone, Warsop and Budby. The section along the Thynghowe Trail marks some of the events of over a thousand years of history. This area was once border territory between the kingdoms of Northumbria and Mercia with the hill of Thynghowe, possibly playing an important role in this era.

Edwinstowe Walk If you fancy putting in the miles, then this 8-mile walk could be the one for you. This walk round some of the historic sites at the heart of Sherwood Forest, including parts not normally seen by visitors.

Explore the legends of Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest County Park and Visitor Centre, just a 10-minute drive from The Sherwood Hideaway, hosts an exhibition about the region’s most famous outlaw – Robin Hood – and gives visitors the chance to test their own archery skills.

This is also the starting point for a nature trail that leads into Sherwood Forest and to The Major Oak, which is 1,000 years old and is said to have been a hiding place for Robin to evade his enemies.
